Response to the Saint Petersburg tragedy on the 3rd April 2017
Posted by Andrew Glenister on 03 April 2017 05:38 PM
We were saddened to hear of the tragedy in Saint Petersburg on the 3rd April.

Information is still being released by the Russian government, but currently there is no reason to believe that this tragedy will be repeated and there is also no reason to believe that other public services, or places of interest, will be affected. Saint Petersburg is generally a very safe place to travel, and as has been seen after incidents in Paris and London, local security and police services will be working very hard to ensure everyone’s safety in the short, medium and long term.

Before travelling anywhere, it is always advisable to check the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s website for the most up-to-date information regarding safety, whether it is Russia being visited or anywhere else.

Anyone who has planned to, or is planning to, visit Saint Petersburg over the next few weeks and months can visit the following link for the most up-to-date safety advice -

Domestic trains booking window improved
Posted by Andrew Glenister on 14 November 2016 02:57 PM

Good news for those of you who like to book their rail tickets as far in advance of travel as possible; all domestic trains travelling within the borders of the Russian Federation will be available 60 days before the date of travel.

Currently tickets for most domestic trains are only available 45 days before the date of travel.

This new rule will come into force on the 11th December.
This is great news for nervous travellers (like me(!)) who like to have their travel arrangements confirmed as early as possible!

In addition to the 60-day booking window, remember that Real Russia can take rail bookings at any time, for any rail journey. This way, the moment the tickets are available our experience rail experts can book them for you. This is particularly important during the summer when tickets for popular routes can sell out in no time at all. Booking through Real Russia removes the need to set an alarm for the early hours of the morning in order to be up in time to book tickets, as we do that for you!
